England will lose the services of left-arm spin all-rounder Liam Dawson with a side strain. The player has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Dawson will be replaced by Kent’s Joe Denly who is part of the Test series that will follow the ODI series.
Joe Denly is expected to reach Sri Lanka by Wednesday and will be available for the final 2 ODIs in the series.
“It’s a bit of a shame for Daws,” said Chris Woakes. “The big thing about Daws is that he’s a brilliant team man, he’s been in and out for quite a while and hasn’t had many opportunities to play.
“When he looks like he is going to be a shoe-in for that third spinner’s role, he, unfortunately, gets a bit of a niggle. He’ll be as frustrated as anyone.”
