Thiem too strong for Nagal! Birthday boy beat Sumit Nagal in straight sets

No fairytale ending for Sumit Nagal and Indian tennis at Arthur Ashe, as second seed Dominic Thiem beat Nagal straight sets in the second round. Thiem was in really good form from the start of the match, he even broke the first serve of Indian but Nagal came back and broke Thiem back. As the set proceeded Thiem breaks him again and wins the first set 6-3. Kind of a similar story followed in the second set, yet again Nagal broke Thiem once but concede the set 6-3.

Then Thiem won the third set without losing serve 6-2 and booked a place in third round of the US Open. Perfect performance on his birthday for sure. Even though he lost it in straight sets it is not a bad performance from Sumit Nagal, he did come up with some good tennis during the match. Also, he was able to break the second seed twice in the match. He will be getting richer by 74 Lacs INR as prize money from the tournament. But he will be disappointed for the fact that he didn’t repeat the heroics of last year against Roger Federer in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Dominic Thiem will face former Grandslam champion and Croatian legend Marin Cilic in the third round. 31st seed Cilic secures the third round after beating unseeded Russian Nirbert Gambos in 4 sets. He hit 4 aces in the match, after winning the first set 6-3 Cilic really struggled in the second set, which he lost 6-1 to Russian. But the Croatian come back in the third set and won it in a tiebreaker. Also, he produced a break in crucial moment in the fourth set and won the set 7-5 and secure a place in third round. Of course, Thiem vs Cilic will be a very fascinating match to watch for sure.
