Canadian and 12th seed Denis Shapovalov upset 7th seed Belgian David Goffin in the round of 16 of the US Open. Shapovalov comes back from losing the first set in a tiebreaker. He hit 12 aces and broke Goffin’s serve 5 times. He won the second set 6-3 and levels the match. He also carries the momentum to the rest of the match and won the third and fourth sets with the score 6-4, 6-3 respectively. Shapovalov will face 20th seed Canadian Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarter-finals. Busta qualified for the quarter-finals after the disqualification of world number one Novak Djokovic.
Meanwhile, 5th seed german Alexander Zverev reaches the last eight of the tournament after beating unseeded Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets. Only with 2 double faults in the whole game Zverev upgraded his game and hit 15 aces. He also broke Fokina 8 times and won the match with the scoreline of 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.
Zverev will face 27th seed Croatian Borna Coric in the quarter-finals. Coric who reached the fourth round after upsetting fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the previous round was in a really great form against Jordan Thompson of Australia. Coric dominated the game and won the match in straight sets. Score : 7-5, 6-1, 6-3.
