Monza have announced that former italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has completed his takeover of the Serie C club. Silvio Berlusconi owned AC Milan for 31 years until selling up in 2017. The deal is reportedly worth up to £3m, and will see 81-year-old Berlusconi return to the club game less than 18 months after he sold AC Milan. AC Milan won five European Cups, as well as eight Serie A titles during Berlusconi tenure.
A Press release read: “Fininvest SpA has today finalised the 100% acquisition of SS Monza 1912.
“The Shareholders’ Meeting also approved the appointment of a new Board of Directors, composed of Nicola Colombo (President), Paolo Berlusconi, Adriano Galliani, Roberto Mazzo and Danilo Pellegrino.
“The Board also appointed Adriano Galliani as CEO of the club.”
The third division side Monza have never played in Italy’s top tier, but Berlusconi has pledged to guide them all the way to Serie A.
