What happened to Real Madrid?

“Who needs Ronaldo?” This is a banner that a fan held up at the Santiago Bernabeu. With 9 games done and dusted, Real Madrid lost three of them. Not so good going for the giants. Do they really miss Ronaldo or is the Lopetgui tactics that are hurting them?

When compared to what Zidane achievedĀ in his managerial career, Lopetgui doesn’t have much to boast about. He has managed teams like Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid B, and FC Porto before managing Spain. With Porto in theĀ Primeira Liga, he didn’t win a single piece of silverware. He had a big budget to bring glory to Porto but the maximum he could do was guide them to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The fact is to be sad, he doesn’t have the decorated CV a Real Madrid Manager is supposed to have.

Let’s be honest. Real Madrid does miss Cristiano Ronaldo. While replacing Ronaldo is not an easy task by any means, the fact is Real Madrid didn’t even give it a try. They did sign Mariano Diaz and gifted him the iconic number 7 jersey(I mean seriously?). Who was Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid? He was their all-time top scorer. The man for the big occasions, the man who can win you titles and above all Champions League titles. A great leader who held the dressing room together.

Benzema should some initial signs of improvement but his form dried up. He is not scoring goals to Real Madrid’s liking. Bale is someone who has the caliber of stepping up but everyone is aware of his injury woes in the past. Asensio is yet to shine and rise up to his best. Modric hasn’t been able to create much of an impact as he would have liked to as they are not firing in the front.

Real Madrid should try to bring in players with a winning mentality. Some players who can drag you from the dust and has some magic associated with them. Eden Hazard is definitely a great option as he is flying at the moment with Chelsea. Will Neymar/Mbappe join Madrid from PSG?

So the solution? Lopetgui is moving towards the sack with each passing day. So sack him fast and buy a player like Eden Hazard.
