South African International Wayne Parnell has signed a Kolpak deal with Worcestershire putting an end to his international career. The 29-year-old will join on a three years deal after being part of the team in their successful T20 Blast season this time.
Parnell last played for South Africa in a Test match against Bangladesh in 2017 October. Making his debut on January 2009 Wayne played 6 Tests, 65 ODIs and 40 T20Is for South Africa. In Worcestershire’s maiden T20 Trophy in Vitality T20 Blast, he picked 14 wickets this season.
“His quality speaks for itself in terms of us looking to make him a permanent member of the squad,” said Leach, Worcestershire CC captain.
“He’s been fantastic, his quality on the field with bat and ball have really added to the group but his experience and the way he carries himself off the field have been a massive plus for us. He’s been really helpful to the younger bowlers in the group and I’m sure that will continue into the future. He has loved being a part of the club and obviously, for a dressing room like ours the way he has fitted in has been crucial.”
