CPL 2018 Qualifier 1 : Bowlers , Hetmyer & Rutherford ensure GAW Finals berth

Can’t ask for a better T20 Game than this especially when it is Qualifier game of a tournament like CPL. In a low scoring which was dominated by bowlers from each team, a game where fortunes were changing every other ball, Guyana Amazon warriors managed to win the game by 2 wickets against Trinbago Knight Riders.
Having won the toss, Chris Green, Captain of GAW opted to bowl again like the final league game against the same opponents. He led the bowling attack with 4-1-8-2 well supported by all other bowlers. GAW managed to restrict TKR to a total of 122/7 in 20 overs. It was the repeat of the final league game – openers failed again. Both McCullum and Munro fell without scoring a run. TKR were reduced to 26/4 in 5.4 overs as they lost Narine for 8 and Ramdin for 15. Ingram and Darren Bravo took TKR to 86. 16th oversaw Ingram caught by Shepherd bowled by Emrit for 25. Darren Bravo scored 24 of 33 before getting out to Tanvir. Dwayne Bravo scored run a ball 22 and Kevon Cooper finished it with 10 ball 15 to take TKR above 120.
It’s always tricky chasing small targets, GAW lost both their openers within the powerplay. They were 23/2 in 5.5 overs.
Jason Mohammed and Walton fell without adding much to the score and followed by Captain Chris Green for 0. The collapse left GAW struggling at 52/5 in 12 overs. Shimron Hetmyer held one end strong and he was joined by previous game hero Rutherford. GAW was still in need of 62 in 8 overs. Just like the last league game, the duo played with confidence to add 50 runs in next 5 overs.
TKR was never ready to lose it so easily. More twists to this game – first one came in the form of Hetmyer being run out with a direct hit from Cooper scoring 39. Rutherford got out in the very next ball from Cooper. He scored a quick 30 from 17 balls to release some pressure of the chase. They lost Emrit in the next over leaving GAW to get 18 from 13 balls with two wickets remaining. It was anyone’s game till Tanvir finished the chase with a huge six in the penultimate ball along with Romario Shepherd who remained not out on 13 from 6 balls.
Hetmyer – Man of the match, expressed his confidence that GAW can win CPL 2018 this time around.
GAW is one win away from their dream and it’s still not over for TKR, they have another chance when they meet the winner of Eliminator game between Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots tomorrow.
