IIM Kozhikode will be organizing the tenth edition of Peekay Steel Calicut half Marathon 2019 on the 24th of February 2019. As a prelude to the tenth edition of Calicut half Marathon, IIM Kozhikode organized Walk The Talk (a promotional event) on 20th January, 2019 from the CSI Cathedral, Mananchira. The event promoted morning walk and historical significance of various forgotten landmarks of Calicut which saw large participation from the city.
The Occasion also helped in recollecting the significances of localities and avenues of the vibrant city of Calicut, starting from the CSI Church Tazhekkod, proceeding towards Model School, along Ansari Park, followed by visiting Town Hall, then heading to Central Library crossing Common wealth and finally concluding at SM Street. The walk was inaugurated by Prof. T Sobhindran (retd.), Head of the Economics Department, Zamorin Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode. He is popularly referred as the “Green Man” for his conservation activities in and outside the district. He spoke at length about the importance of morning walks.
The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Prasanth Kumar, General Manager (HR & PR), Peekay Steels Castings (P) Ltd. and Mr. A.P. Sathyan, the Director at Niravu, our long term NGO partner who participated in the walk enthusiastically. The engrossing walk was concluded by congratulating the entire team and conveying good wishes for the marathon.
This year the theme for the Marathon is ‘United Kerala – Upholding the Legacy’ celebrates the unity, stands for the less fortunate and aims to build a stronger Kerala.
The marathon will start from beach (in front of All India Radio office) on 24th February, 2019 at 5:30 AM and run till Shri Gujarathi Vidyalaya higher secondary school. The marathon features three categories, a 21 km “Half Marathon”, a 10 km “Mini Marathon” which are competitive races and a 3 km “Dream Run”, a non-competitive run featuring people from all walks of life.
Over the past nine years, the marathon has been taking up a unique cause every year- having focused on critical issues of women empowerment, rights of differently-abled people, waste management, organ donation, healthy living and eco- friendliness in the past.
