Second seed Dominic Thiem will face third seed Daniil Medvedev in the second US Open semifinal. The second-seeded Austrian reach his second grand slam semifinal in a row after beating 21st seed Australian youngster Alex De Minaur in straight sets. The quarterfinal was a really one-sided affair, Thiem served really well hit 11 aces with the winning percentage of 83% in the first serve.
Thiem was broken twice in the match broke the Australian 7 times all match. He gave away only one point in the first set and won it 6-1. It was the same story in the second set too, the Austrian takes the set 6-2. In the final set, Minaur tried to fight back a little but Thiem was too strong for him. He won the set 6-4 and march towards the semifinals.
Meanwhile, against his fellow countryman, Andrey Rublev third seed Russian Daniil Medvedev has shown really his class. Medvedev who is yet to lose a set in this year’s US Open won the match in straight sets with the scoreline of 7-6, 6-3, 7-6. Match saw two tiebreakers, both won by Medvedev. In the first set tiebreaker, Medvedev saved 3 set points against the 10th seed Rublev.
Losing the first set tiebreaker in such a manner really makes Rublev very angry and frustrated he also expressed that anger towards his team. In the second set, Medvedev created the only break point of the match and converts it. After winning the second set 6-3 it was a similar story like in the first in the final set. After both players refused to concede the break then the set goes to the tiebreaker. Like in the first Medvedev wins the tiebreaker and book a place in the semifinals.
During the final set, Medvedev felt some pain in his body and take a medical timeout. After the match, he said he hopes he will be fully fit for the semifinal. The semifinal between last year’s US Open finalist and this year’s Australian Open finalist will be a tough match to call. Both players in great form and shape. Both were so close to winning the first-ever Grandslam in those finals, both want to win the title so bad. So it will be a terrific semifinal for sure.
