Fifth seed Alexander Zverev reaches back to back Grandslam semifinals after beating Borna Coric in the quarterfinal. He comes back from a set down to win the match with the scoreline of 1-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-3. After losing the first set in a really disappointing way he falls behind the second set 4-1 but from on he broke 27th seed Coric’s serve and win the second set in a well-fought tiebreaker.
Coric who upsets fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas carried real danger all match. The third set was almost identical to the second once again Zverev win the set in a tiebreaker and take advantage in the match. In the deciding fourth set, the German was able to find a crucial break and then won the set 6-3. Before conceding the match the Croatian was able to rescue two match points but couldn’t avoid the defeat. Zverev reaches a Grandslam semifinal for the second time in his career, it’s his second grand slam semifinal in a raw. It was also the 42nd victory for Zverev in the slam stage.
Alexander Zverev will face 20th seed Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the semifinal. Busta beat 12th seed Canadian Denis Shapovalov in a marathon 5 setter. It’s Busta’s second-ever US Open semifinal entry. Shapovalov hit massive 26 aces and broke Busta 8 times in the match. But he also hit 11 double faults and concede the serves in very crucial times. It was Shapovalov who won the first set 6-3 and take the advantage to the match.
But Busta comes back and won the second set in a tiebreaker, then he repeats the same in the third set and takes the advantage.
Then Busta suffered some difficulties with his body in the fourth set. Then he concedes a bagel and lost the set 6-0. After the fourth set Busta take the medical time out and got some medical help. Busta comes back from the pain and humiliation of the fourth set in a very strong way in the final set. He found the crucial break and win the fifth set 6-3. Busta who is around the tennis court for some time will target to reach his first-ever US Open final against the young gun Alexander Zverev, who is also looking for his first-ever Grandslam final.
