Second seed Austrian Dominic Thiem will face Fifth seed German Alexander Zverev in this year’s US Open. Sascha aka Alexander Zverev come back from two set down to win his marathon match against 20th seed Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta. It was a hell of a come back from Sascha. Who concede breaks in the first set and lost it 6-3, then he again concede back to back breaks in second and fall behind 5-0. But he was able to win back a break but eventually, he lost the set 6-2.

Meanwhile, it was a straight forward win for the second seed Dominic Thiem. He beat third seed Russian Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. Medvedev who reaches the semifinal without losing a set lost in straight sets. It was disappointing from the Russian but Thiem was absolutely amazing during the match. In the first set, Thiem was able to find the break early. Then Medvedev involved a heated argument with officials over a decision on a challenge, it really cost his focus and he lost the set 6-2.

But in the second set, Medvedev was able to find break Thiem’s first serve on the match. Then both players hold their serve really well. But while Medvedev serving for the match Thiem able to break back and levels the match. He also saved a breakpoint in next serve and took the set to a tiebreaker. Thiem dominated the Tiebreaker, Medvedev saved one set point but he can’t avoid the defeat in a tiebreaker. After the second set Thiem gets a medical time out due to the injury.

It was a kind of similar story repeated in the third set too. Like in the second Medvedev breaks first and got the initial advantage in the third set. The set was full of long rallies. In the final stages of the set like in the second Thiem finds the break and took the set into tiebreaker once again. Initially, Medvedev made some errors, so Thiem got a real advantage in the tiebreaker. Medvedev later come back in the tiebreaker and saved a match point but eventually, he lost the tiebreaker and semifinal.

It is Dominic Thiem’s fourth Grandslam final in his career, first at US Open. He also becomes the first-ever Austrian to reach the US Open final. It’s also his second Grandslam final in 2020.
