Newcastle have signed Brazilian striker Joelinton from Hoffenheim for a club-record £40m deal. This deal breaks the previous record fee of £21.6m, which the Magpies paid for Paraguay international Miguel Almiron from MLS side Atlanta United. The 22-year-old Brazilian will wear no 9 and stays at St James’ Park as a part of six-year deal. Joelinton scored 11 goals in 35 games for Hoffenheim last season. Joelinton is the first signing under Steve Bruce’s management at Newcastle.
“I’m really happy to be here,” Joelinton told the club’s official website after signing a six-year deal. “I know it’s a large investment that the club has made in me and that comes with a huge responsibility. I’m highly motivated and hope to give back on the pitch.”
