Newcastle United is actively pursuing James Trafford, the promising goalkeeper from Burnley, as their top choice to bolster their squad for the upcoming season. The Magpies have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the 21-year-old, marking him as a priority option to fill their goalkeeper position.
However, negotiations with Burnley over Trafford’s transfer fee are ongoing. Initially, the Magpies offered £16 million ($20.3m) to secure Trafford’s services, but Burnley is pushing for a higher fee, closer to £20 million ($25.4m), due to the goalkeeper’s high potential and performances in recent seasons.
In response to Burnley’s stance, Newcastle is expected to submit a new proposal in the region of £15 million, with additional add-ons based on Trafford’s future performances. It’s worth noting that Manchester City, Trafford’s former club, will receive 20% of the transfer fee from Burnley as part of their agreement.
Trafford, born on October 10, 2002, has garnered attention for his impressive performances during loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers. With his experience and potential, he could provide a significant boost to Newcastle United’s goalkeeping department as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
