Defending champions India beat Srilanka 2-0 to kick-start their SAFF campaign. Ashique Kuruniyan and Lalianzuala Chhangte were the goal scorers with Ashique scoring the opening goal in the first half. India dominated the proceedings in the first half but it took until the 36th minute for the team to find the back of the net.
Chhangte doubled the lead with just minutes of play started in the second half. India takes on the Maldives in their second encounter. Top two teams from the group make it to the semi-finals.
