UNITED RSC KOCHI GRANDSLAM 2019, is an ALL KERALA VETERANS TENNIS tournament, being jointly organized by Regional Sports Centre (RSC) and Ernakulam District Tennis Association (EDTA) at Justice P Govindan Nair, Indoor Tennis Courts at Kadavanthra, Kochi. The Event is Conducted under the auspices of Kerala Veterans Tennis Association (KVTA) associated with Kerala Tennis Association (KTA). This is the 20th Edition of the tournament.
Shri M P Dinesh, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Kochi City, The President of RSC will be Inaugurate the Tournament on 5th April 2019 at 1030 hrs. A Salim- President KTA, K M Noordin Mather -Committee Member AITA, SAS Navas IRS (retd.)- SecretaryRSC, Thomas Paul- Secretary KTA, P V Timothy- Chairman KVTA, Dr. Jayakumar- President EDTA, Ram Kishore- Secretary EDTA, Martin George- Tournament Director and Vice President, EDTA, will be present.
The Winning District is awarded with PAUL KUNNATH ever rolling trophy. The award is decided by the overall points, in all events. In 2018, Ernakulam District won this trophy. (photo attached)
The Tournament will be conducted in age groups of 35+, 45+, 55+, 65+ and 75+. In both singles and double format. 190 Veterans from All over Kerala are expected to attend. The include previous State Champions and All India Veteran Champions. For the first time, the event is being conducted in three days on 5th , 6th and 7th of April 2019. The play will start at 7AM on all days and will be played on the 4 synthetic covered courts. The Prize Distribution will be done on 7th Sunday, April 2019.
The Eligibility to participate in the tournament will be that the player has to be a member of any club in Kerala, affiliated to the District Tennis association under KTA. This being the most popular and prestigious Veterans’ tournament of Kerala, participation from all over Kerala is expected. It is also to be noted that Ladies are also allowed to play in the respective age groups along with Men.
Even though the temperature is high during this summer, since the courts are covered, Veterans’ can still enjoy Tennis. Unlike the full sets, the format is BEST of3, Mini sets, which will reduce the toll on the Veterans. Various Hydrating liquids and water will be in good supply to all the players. Medical Facility is also provided by a panel of eminent Doctors.
