The 2019 RSC Kochi Grand Slam, the all Kerala veterans tennis tournament, was inaugurated today, 5th April, 2019, at the Regional Sports Centre, Kadavanthra, by Cine Star Sri Kunchacko Boban in the presence of RSC president Sri S Surendran, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Kochi and Sri SAS Navas , IRS (retd) Secretary RSC, Dr.Jayakumar, President of Ernakulam Dist. Tennis Association and Sri Yacoob, committee member, RSC.
The welcome address was made by Sri Jacob Kallivayalil revealed the tournament jersey and Sri Martin George, Tournament Director introduced the dignitaries. Kunchacko Boban served the ball to Sri Surendran and inaugurated the tournament. Kunchacko Boban
an avid badminton player said he wishes to take up tennis soon and will be a regular at the RSC in the mornings whenever he is in Kochi.
This is the 19th year of the RSC tennis tournament. About 180 players are participating in singles and doubles categories. The age categories start from 35+ and go up to 75+ in intervals of 10. The oldest player participating in the event is Sri K.M. John from Tiruvalla, who is 88 years old.
The tournament will conclude on 7th April with the prize distribution scheduled at 7 pm
