India had a good day in the Denmark Open with shuttlers entering the semifinals of Women’s and Men’s Singles event. India’s Saina Nehwal defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in a three game encounter which lasted 58 minutes. Sainathree-game in the first game only to make a comeback to win the remaining games in the match. Saina entered semis with a 17-21, 21-16, 21-12 win.
Earlier in the day Srikanth Kidambi overcame a tough resistance from fellow associate Sameer Verma. In the three game marathon match that ended in 78 minutes both the players were relentant to give up and fought till the last breath. With his experience Srikanth edged past Sameer to take the game 22-20, 19-21, 23-21.
In the Women’s doubles India faced a setback as Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy went down in straight games to Japanese pair. Score: 21-14, 21-12.
