In a scintillating final of the Koyappa Sevens tournament held at Koduvalli, Gymkhana Thrissur emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Linsha Mannarkkad. The Koyappa Sevens tournament, known as the World Cup of Sevens, witnessed some spectacular performances from the participating teams, but Gymkhana Thrissur’s consistent form and clinical finishing saw them lift the coveted trophy.
Gymkhana Thrissur started the final in a positive manner, taking an early lead through Alberic’s goal at the 10th minute. Linsha Mannarkkad reacted well to the setback and found the equalizer on the 21st minute through Sambo’s penalty goal. However, Gymkhana took the lead again before halftime with another goal from Alberic, this time from the penalty spot at the 27th minute.
In the second half, Linsha Mannarkkad tried hard to get back into the game but failed to find the equalizer. Instead, it was Gymkhana Thrissur who sealed the victory with a third goal from Alfred at the 49th minute.
Gymkhana Thrissur’s journey to the final saw them defeat Skyblue Edappal in the semi-finals and AYC Ucharakkadavu and Royal Travels in the early rounds of the Koyappa Sevens tournament. This is their first trophy of the season, and they will be hoping to build on this success in the upcoming competitions.
