IIM Kozhikode will be organizing the eleventh edition of Peekay Steel Calicut Half Marathon on the 23rd of February 2020. As a prelude to the eleventh edition of Calicut Half Marathon, IIM Kozhikode organized Blue Collar – Street Cleanup Drive event on 27 th January, 2020 at SM Street. The occasion is a clean-up drive partnered with our NGO Partner – Niravu.
Blue Collar was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof. Shobindran (Retd. Head of the Department,
Economics Department, Zamorin Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode) and Mr.Gireesh Pazhayathodi, Secretary, Niravu Organic Village and Mr. Babu Parambath, Coordinator, Niravu Organic Village. The
event aimed to remove trash from the street and raise awareness about plastic ban and keeping our environment clean. The major component of the clean-up drive was picking up and disposing of trash in the surrounding area. The event looked to change this impression among the public by keeping our shared spaces clean, thereby allowing us to build healthier and resilient communities. Today, physical
work is generally discounted keeping mental work and training as priorities. But physical work is as important as mental. It not only helps one be more productive and stay fit. It helps you appreciate smaller things in life. It is one big tool to overcome stress and depression. And this message is what we aim to spread through our marathon this year.
Calicut Half Marathon Committee has organized Calicut Half Marathon successfully for ten years, and organized Kozhikode’s ‘Half Marathon’ during February 2019 which witnessed thousands running shoulder to shoulder. Over the past ten years, the marathon has been taking up a unique cause every year- having focused on critical issues of United Kerala, women empowerment, rights of differentlyabled people, waste management, organ donation, healthy living and eco- friendliness in the past. The
theme for 2020’s marathon is ‘Pursuit of Happiness – Healthy Body, Healthy Mind’ aimed at generating awareness about mental wellbeing along with physical fitness, as a healthy body brings harmony in one’s life, peace in society, thereby spreading happiness everywhere. The marathon will start from beach (in front of All India Radio office) on 23 rd February, 2020 and features three categories, a 21 km “Half Marathon”, a 10 km “Mini Marathon” which are competitive races and a 3 km “Dream Run”, a non‐competitive run featuring people from all walks of life.
