Sri Lanka vs England first ODI called off

The first ODI match between Srilanka and England in Dambulla has been called off due to wet outfield. Sri Lanka won the toss and asked England to bat. England took off thanks to a good start given by the openers but two quick wickets in the space of five balls put Sri Lanka back in the game.

The opening duo of Jonny Bairstow(25) and Jason Roy(24) added 49 runs in the first wicket before the partnership was broken by Nuwan Pradeep. In the next over Akila Dhananjaya sent back Jason Roy. England was in strong position with Eoin Morgan and Joe Root adding 41 runs.

England were 92/2 in 15 overs when the rain halted the proceedings. Joe Root scored 25 runs while Eoin Morgan was just picking up scoring 14 runs from 11 balls when rain interrupted.

Second match of the series will take place in the same ground on October 13.
