Guyana Amazon Warriors did exactly what they need to do in high octane match against table toppers Trinbago Knight Riders to occupy the second spot in the points table. With the win, they will be now playing Qualifier 1 against the same opponent.
After winning the toss, GAW opted to bowl first and did well to restrict TKR to 23/3 in the first 5 overs getting rid of the explosive openers Munro and McCullum. Ingram fell soon to Captain Chris Green. Bravo and Ramdin did rebuild the innings for TKR where Ramdin scored 32 of 31 and Bravo remained not out on 42 of 34 balls. Kevon Cooper’s 14 ball 30 lifted TKR to a decent total of 154/7 in their 20 overs. Chris Green, Tanvir, and R Emrit bowled extremely well picking up 3 wickets among them giving 67 runs in 12 overs.
GAW had to chase the target in 15.3 overs to secure a spot in top two to qualify for the Qualifier 1 didn’t have the start expected as Wicketkeeper Batsman Ronchi bowled for just 1 run by Fawad Ahmad when the score was just 20 in 3.1 overs. Cameron Delport was the next one to fall after a well played 37 from 27 balls and Jason Mohammad followed him soon without contributing much to the total. Shimron Hetmyer continued to play his shots at the other end and he was joined by Sherfane Rutherford at 86/3 in 10.1 overs. Rutherford took the attack to TKR bowlers right from the first ball, hitting three consecutive sixers and his intentions were clear to finish the match as quickly as possible. Hetmyer joined the party with more fours and sixes as they scored 91 runs in last 5.1 overs. GAW chased down the target in just 14.1 overs. Hetmyer remained not out on 59 from 30 balls and Rutherford smashed a 13 ball 45 with 6 sixes and a four.
Rutherford, Man of the match expressed his happiness with the performance as he was able to execute the plans and got what he wanted. He also mentioned he was under pressure initially but picked right bowlers to score the boundaries.
Much of a joy for the home crowd as they have witnessed one of the great chase in T20 game. Guyana moved to top two. A fantastic finish to league games. Over to qualifiers – starts with a repeat of the last league game where Guyana Amazon Warriors meets table toppers Trinbago Knight Riders.
We look forward to another exciting clash between the table toppers and to have the first team to qualify for the CPL 2018 Final.
