Australia appoints Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood as vice-captains

Cricket Australia pulled up a surprise by announcing all-round Mitchell Marsh and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood as Test side deputies to Tim Paine. They were picked by national coach, Justin Langer after a lengthy selection process. Hazlewood becomes only the third specialist bowler to become vice-captain for Australia whereas Mitchell Marsh follows his father, Geoff Marsh’s footsteps. Geoff Marsh was Test vice-captain Under Allan Border for Australia.

There were reports that the uncapped players who got their maiden test call up like Aaron Finch, Travis Head and Alex Carey were other players in contention for the vice-captaincy post. The selection process approach was a poll from Australian current players, which were presented to a panel headed by Langer and former Test captains Greg Chappell and Mark Taylor and some other members from Board and chief selector Trevor Hohns.
