Kozhikode, July 30: Gokulam Kerala FC have signed Indian midfielder Ritu Rani for the upcoming season. The 24-year-old player, who can play as a defender also, is the first signing of GKFC Women’s team this season.
GKFC will be participating in the AFC Women’s Club Championship to be held at Amman in Jordan in November.
Ritu is an upcoming player in India and is known for her tackling and can play aerial balls well.
She started his football career at her hometown football academy, Alakhpura FA in Haryana. Her maiden national call-up came in 2017 and she has represented India in several friendlies.
“We are glad to sign Ritu Rani. We believe with players like Ritu, we will be able to mount a challenge in the AFC Club Championship. We are going to start our training camp early in Kerala and we believe with good preparation, we would be able to perform well in the tournament and make a strong team for the upcoming IWL,” said Priya PV, the head coach of Gokulam Kerala FC.
“We are aiming at signing players like Ritu Rani, who are potential. We also have decided to give more chances to young players and build a strong team for both the AFC Cup and the IWL. We are also targeting very experienced foreigners, who could make a change to the game,” said VC Praveen, the president of Gokulam Kerala FC.
