Mizoram Police see off Chanmari FC challenge

Mizoram Police made it two wins in two today as they began round 2 with a victory against Chanmari FC. A late goal from Lalbiaknunga ensured three points for the MFA Super Cup champions as they launch an early challenge for their first ever MPL title.

Chanmari FC were the team to strike first at Lammual this afternoon when experienced playmaker David Lalrinmuana curled in a beauty from the edge of the box on the fifth minute.

The Police teams almost retaliated soon after through Lalfakzuala while Chanmari FC themselves blew a chance to double their advantage through Lalrammmuanpuia.

The equaliser arrived on the 34th minute through Lalbiakhlua whose first time volley of F. Lalrinpuia’s cultured long ball gave Zothanmawia no chance in goal.

The Police team struck again early on in the second half when former striker Malsawmfela was on hand to finish off a rebound after Chanmari custodian Zothanmawia had parried R. Malsawmtluanga’s freekick.

Mizoram Police continued to create chances in the second half with the experienced forward pairing of F. Lalrinpuia and Lalbiakhlua coming close. But it was the bright David Rinmuana who struck again for Chanmari FC with a finely executed freekick on the 80th minute.

The match had looked on course for another draw between the two sides this season until Lalbiaknunga popped up to nick it in the end for Mizoram Police.

Chanmari FC will now face Chhinga Veng FC in October 3 after the Santosh Trophy qualifier break while Mizoram Police will clash with Aizawl FC on the next day.
