It was during the under-17 FIFA World Cup that Rhian Brewster caught the world’s eyes. The youngster was on fire during the World Cup as he bagged eight goals in the competition as England won the cup. Brewster took the Golden Boot and the Bronze ball home. Brewster was the pick of the players in the English team: A team which had the likes of Phil Foden and Callum Hudson-Odoi. It was exciting times for Liverpool fans.
Things didn’t happen according to plan. An injury came as a villain and Rhian Brewster was out for most of the 208/19 season. It was disappointing, but here he is back to his best. He is looking sharp as he is in scintillating form this preseason with Liverpool.
So does he have a role to play this time around?
With Daniel Sturridge departing Anfield, Klopp will be happy with the availability of Brewster as he has the predator instincts that excites. The rise to the starting line-up won’t be a stroll in the park as he has a competition to handle. It is almost impossible to displace Firmino from Klopp’s plans as the German regards him highly. Origi, who is a superhero figure among the KOP at the moment recently signed a new deal with Liverpool some weeks back. So, he is also a part of Klopp’s plans.
As per the comments on Brewster by Klopp, it seems like that the German has a plan with Brewster. The German can convert into a player who can play anywhere in the front-three. Brewster has that eye for a goal as a classic number 9 and, with his pace, he can play on the wings as well. Under the brilliant guidance of the likes of Salah, Mane, Firmino and Virgil Van Dijk, things are even easier for the 19-year-old. As per the stats, Brewster has made around 36 appearances for the Liverpool U-23s and has bagged 15 goals in the process. That’s a good return for a player of his age.
Rhian Brewster’s chance to show his talent to the world will be an injury to any of the front-three (I sincerely hope all of them stay fit throughout the season!). With the pace and acceleration, Klopp will prefer him on the wings rather than Origi provided Brewster stays injury-free. The injuries cost the teenager valuable game time last season, but it seems like he has put all the injury woes behind him.
Over the past 12 months, Liverpool has cleared out the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke from their list. It is evident that Klopp rates the London-born Brewster highly, and it is his time to shine. With his World Cup-winning teammates grabbing attention, it is high time for the teenager to unleash himself.
