Serena wins the battle of mothers and set up a meeting with good friend Azarenka in the semifinal

Third seed Serena Williams aiming for her record twenty-fourth Grandslam title reached another US Open semifinal. It was her 106th US Open win and 11th straight US Open semifinal. She comes back from a set down to win the match against Tsvetana Pironkova in a three-setter. The battle between the mothers was really entertaining. Pironkova was able to break Serena in the first set and win the set 6-3.

In the second set, Pironkova broke the first serve of Serena and gave a real shock to 6 time US Open champion. But then on Serena comes back strong and break Pironkova back to back. She wins the set 6-3. In the final set, Serena repeats the same performance and broke her twice again. After winning the final set 6-2 Serena match towards the semifinal. Serena serves really well from the second set onwards, hit massive 20 aces in the match. After the match Serena said this shows how tough mothers are, she also added that if someone can give birth to a baby then they can do anything else.

Serena will face her good friend and another mother Victoria Azarenka in the semifinal. Unseeded Azarenka really humiliated 16th seed Belgian Elise Mertens in straight sets. Apart from conceding a break in the first set Azarenka gave nothing away against Mertens. The match only lasted 73 minutes. After winning the first set 6-1 Azarenka really humiliated Mertens with a bagel in the second set and wins it 6-0.

She broke Mertens 6 times in the match. It was her first semifinal in a Grandslam stage after the 2013 French Open semifinal. This year’s Cincinnati Open champion will face a really tough match against Serena Williams in the semifinal. Over the years the Belarusian and American faced many tough battles in big stages of Grandslam. When they meet once again in the semifinal at Newyork it may be another great match to remember for sure. Both players expressed that they are really excited to play each other. Once again the battle of mothers awaits in US Open.
