India-Belgium thriller ends in a Draw

India and Belgium locked horns in their second match of the Hockey Worldcup. India was cruising towards a thrilling win with only minutes left for the game to end but Simon Gougnard broke Indian hearts with a late equalizer with only under 4 minutes left in the play. Match ended with the scoreline reading 2-2.

Belgium took an early lead in the match with a goal from Alexander Hendrickx in the 8th minute. India couldn’t return a goal in the first two quarters and went a goal down at the break. In the 39th minute Harmanpreet Singh scored from a penalty stroke and in the 47th minute, Simranjeet Singh scored the second goal for India.

The crowd at the Kalinga Stadium were jubilant and were celebrating India’s second win of the tournament only to see Belgium equalize late.
