Marcus Trescothick signed a one-year contract to extend his deal with Somerset making his stint with the county for the 27th year. The Former England opener has now scored the most runs in the history of the county. The deal was announced on Tuesday, 25 September. The 42-year-old made his county debut in 1993. He has many Somerset record in his name including 52 first-class centuries and 7374 List A runs.

Having played for England in 76 Tests between 2000 and 2006 scored 5825 runs and from 123 ODIs he amassed 4335 runs.

“I’m delighted to have signed for at least another year. I still have the drive, passion, and energy to want to get better and strive to perform for the team. I’ve always said that I want to continue to play for Somerset for as long as possible and that feeling has not changed.” Trescothick commented after signing the contract. “We’ve made good progress in the County Championship and other competitions this season and I’m excited for what is to come for the Club when you look at the combination of youth and experience within the squad,” he added.
